Vanish by Sophie Jordan

If you haven’t read  Firelight yet, this will contain some pretty awesome spoilers in it.  Ye been warned!  I couldn’t wait…I had to do another post this week.  This book…totally worth it.   It left an even BIGGER cliffhanger than the first…can you even fathom that?  And why am I using words like “ye” and “fathom“???

Title: Vanish

Author: Sophie Jordan

Summary:

To save the life of the boy she loves, Jacinda did the unthinkable: She betrayed the most closely-guarded secret of her kind. Now she must return to the protection of her pride knowing she might never see Will again—and worse, that because his mind has been shaded, Will’s memories of that fateful night and why she had to flee are gone.

Back home, Jacinda is greeted with hostility and must work to prove her loyalty for both her sake and her family’s. Among the few who will even talk to her are Cassian, the pride’s heir apparent who has always wanted her, and her sister, Tamra, who has been forever changed by a twist of fate. Jacinda knows that she should forget Will and move on—that if he managed to remember and keep his promise to find her, it would only endanger them both. Yet she clings to the hope that someday they will be together again. When the chance arrives to follow her heart, will she risk everything for love?

My take:

I’m desperate…desperately desperate…for the next book.  I just had to let everyone know up front.  So if you’re the type that likes being able to read all the books in the series at once…do not start this one.  I’m doomed.

So, Jacinda has gone back to the pride with her mom and Tamra.  Everyone sure is surprised to see the changed Tamra too!  It even catches the eye of Cassian whom Tamra has fawned over for years.  Things start going downhill fast though and although a lot of people are glad to see Tamra, not everyone is excited about Jacinda and their mom being back.

While living with everyone in the pride being kinda nasty, Jacinda also is worried about Will.  In the last book we see, when Tamra makes her grand transformation, that Will and everyone gets thrown into a fog to make them forget everything they’ve just seen.  Just how much does Will forget?  Will he remember her at all?   Dun Dun DUN!!!!!!

I loved being able to see the day to day lives of the pride.  I liked the explanations of the different processes or things that goes on in the draki world.  This book helped give more background and insight as to how restrictive they are and why Jacinda had acted the way she did in the first book.

In this book, the love triangle is HUGE!  It can’t be a ya fiction read if there aren’t two boys and one girl involved, can it?  I hope you enjoy this book as much I did!  …now to twiddle my thumbs until 2012 comes around the the third book decides to publish itself…

Firelight by Sophie Jordan

*claps hands  You know when you finish a good book and you’re just pouring back through to re-read favorite parts, but running around to get the next book in the series because you HAVE to find out what happens next?  …uh huh.  This book.  Yup.  *sigh  I REALLY liked this book…did the clapping give that away?

Title:Firelight

Author: Sophie Jordan

Summary:

A hidden truth.
Mortal enemies.
Doomed love.

Marked as special at an early age, Jacinda knows her every move is watched. But she longs for freedom to make her own choices. When she breaks the most sacred tenet among her kind, she nearly pays with her life. Until a beautiful stranger saves her. A stranger who was sent to hunt those like her. For Jacinda is a draki—a descendant of dragons whose greatest defense is her secret ability to shift into human form.

Forced to flee into the mortal world with her family, Jacinda struggles to adapt to her new surroundings. The only bright light is Will. Gorgeous, elusive Will who stirs her inner draki to life. Although she is irresistibly drawn to him, Jacinda knows Will’s dark secret: He and his family are hunters. She should avoid him at all costs. But her inner draki is slowly slipping away—if it dies she will be left as a human forever. She’ll do anything to prevent that. Even if it means getting closer to her most dangerous enemy.

My take on it:

So Jacinda is a draki, a dragon who can manifest into a human…how cool is that?  Not ONLY that (like being a dragon isn’t cool enough), but she’s a fire breather…the last one that anyone knows about!  So she’s been “paired” up with the Alpha (King)’s son Cassian, to make sure more fire breathers are born (if you catch my drift).

Jacinda is stubborn, hard headed, and likes to defy the rules.  She’s got an “f  you” mentality towards her family and the pride and it costs her just about everything.  Her mom takes both her and her twin sister and run away into the Nevada desert to escape the draki pride.

Jacinda soon falls for a guy at school (who just so happens to be a dragon hunter) and there she goes on a hot and cold relationship.  A lot of people have hang ups on this book because of this reason, so if you’re not a “I love him”  “I love him not”  “I love him” “I love him not” etc etc. type person…theeeeeeen you might not like this book.

I like Will.  He’s cute, quirky, doesn’t give up, always puts the right mindset back into Jacinda, and puts up with her crap. So I root for him from the start.

Oh, just so you know…I started reading the second book and this author was awesome enough to start RIGHT where she ended the last one.  Loooooove that when authors do that!!

Anywho’s, I’ve read a lot of mixed reviews…it’s apparently the type of book that you either love or hate.  I personally loved this book and will hopefully finish the second to give you the juicy review on that one as well!
